Chorister Profile - Megan Fowler

This week we chat to one of our youngest members, the beautiful Megan Fowler. She gives some insight on what it's like to be part of the Vocal Manoeuvres Academy and our Australian Vocal Arts Ensemble...

How long have you been singing?

I have been singing all my life. Both my parents are professional musicians, my Mum is a an outstanding teacher and below is video clip of my Dad . I am so very proud of them both and I study at the VMA as my parents know it is the best place to study to become a complete musician.

What do you like best about being part of the VMA?

I like the crazy and zany antics we get up to. It is such a great place to learn and work hard, achieve great results but also I feel fine to express who I am and the teachers encourage that.

What ensemble are you in and have you had any performances with them as yet?

I am in the Australian Vocal Arts Ensemble and I have had many performances including Lord Mayor’s Senior’s Christmas Parties at Brisbane City Hall, Citizenship Ceremonies at Redland Performing Arts Complex and working with Australia’s leading musicians in high profile Christmas events. All really exciting.

What is your favourite type of music, or favourite piece you have sung?

I love the Disney arrangements we sing. We know Disney is difficult and sung by adults in the original versions but that doesn’t stop me loving the music and aspiring to sing just like that (or even better) one day!

Do you have any advice for young people who might be considering joining the VMA, or taking up singing?

It can be nerve wracking when we first go and everyone is really good at singing but as soon as you are there you are made to feel welcome. I think if you love to sing, just sign up. The teachers know everyone is not at their potential as a singer because that is why you come to VMA to learn and the teachers are really good at making you feel at ease.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not singing?

I enjoy heaps of things, including my school activities but with everything I do I am always singing.

Thanks for chatting to us Megan, we hope to see many more of your performances!
