We were ecstatic to win the Queensland Small Business Week Social Media Challenge and be presented with the $10,000 prize at the Connectivity Roundtable event at The Edge, State Library of Queensland in Brisbane on Friday.

The challenge was intended to inspire the next 'big' small business idea and entrants were asked to submit a short film with an innovative, unique and efficient idea that detailed how we could make our business thrive.

At the Vocal Manoeuvres Academy (VMA) we know that everyone has a voice and there are melodies in each of us that deserve to be heard.  VMA will use the prize to to explore ways to elicit voices from across this vast state and harmonise them in this symphony of humanity via a virtual choir.

Australia Post General Manager Small Business Rebecca Burrows said selecting the winner was an enjoyable challenge in itself.

“Entries came from businesses as diverse as hairdressers, designers and automotive, to food, health and business services from all over Queensland,” Ms Burrows said.

“The judging panel was most impressed with Ms Rogers’ entry because it demonstrated the impact of online and digital technologies in creating virtual communities."

The event was attended by Minister for Small Business Leeanne Enoch who commented:

“The roundtable looked at how we can harness the power of connectivity and create change for the better in our business sector so we can create jobs and be competitive in a global market,”

She said thousands of people across the state have taken part in more than 100 events during QSBW, which officially ended on Saturday.”

The roundtable event also featured a panel of experts who pitched their ideas for connectivity in the future and was a key event of Queensland Small Business Week (QSBW).

The panel included RiverCity Labs and Shark Tank investor Steve Baxter: nbn’s Dean Tognella; Go Daddy’s Tara Commerford; and Professor Michael Brünig from the University of Queensland.
